Dear Parents and Carers,

As we come to the end of another busy term I want to take the opportunity to update you all on events and activities in school for the summer term. We are looking forward to the good weather arriving and making the most of our superb outdoor area.

Cricket

All children in Years 3 & 4 will have coaching sessions for cricket every Monday afternoon across the summer term. This is a joint activity with the Year 3 & 4 children from Norwell Primary and will be held here at St. Matthew’s. This is a fabulous opportunity to strengthen friendships and to improve skills. We will also be able to join together to form a competitive team at the inter school cricket competition later in the term.

Orienteering

All of the children will have the opportunity to learn some orienteering skills. We have booked some sessions that will be led by staff from the Perlethorpe centre but will be held here at school. There will be the opportunity for children from all classes to be involved.

Talented Readers

Some of our children from St. Matthew’s will be joining with some enthusiastic readers at Norwell Primary for weekly sessions to read some new and challenging books together as a part of our provision for children with particular talents. We will be writing some book reviews that might help you when choosing books for your children!

The rainbow Room

We are all very proud of our school and the lovely learning space that it provides but we are still looking to improve it even more. Mrs. Sleight has been working very hard to transform the small room next to the Community Room. The Rainbow Room is absolutely beautiful and will be used by children to work in small groups or for one to one tuition. It is also a nice calm area for children to spend time if they need a little time away from the busy classroom or playground.

Absence/ Social Media

Before we do finish for the Easter break I do need to remind you about any absence from school. We do request that you inform the school office of the reason for your child not being at school on the first day of absence and let us know when they are likely to return. If you are taking your child out of school for a family holiday you need to fill out a holiday request form. The current policy means that this is unlikely to be authorised but the form must be completed prior to the absence from school.

We have had some issues involving the use of social media. Some children are using instagram or snapchat outside of school. We do give guidance to the children on how important it is to use any social media carefully and with consideration for others but it can still lead to issues between children and affect friendships in and out of school. If your child has access to any of these social media it would be useful to discuss this with them. If you have any concerns or questions around this please call in and see me.

There is a lot to look forward to and I am sure that all the children will have a very enjoyable summer here at St. Matthew’s.

Wishing you all an enjoyable and peaceful Easter break,

Best Wishes,

Diane Ward
