Whole School Curriculum Planning

“The National Curriculum is just one element in the education of every child.”

Introduction

The National Curriculum for Primary Schools has enabled us to design and shape the curriculum to meet the particular needs of our two small, rural schools.

We know that our children are fortunate to have the fabulous opportunity to learn in a safe and extensive site, in small class sizes and within a highly supportive community, however, we need to be aware of the challenge of our particular context and as a result we have three key drivers for our curriculum;

  • Developing independence in learning
  • Broadening children’s understanding of the wider world
  • Maximising the potential of a full range of partnerships

These three aspects are at the heart of our curriculum, they support our focus on securing transferable skills in all subjects as well as covering the full content as outlined in the National Curriculum and incorporating within it our values of love, honesty, forgiveness, generosity, respect and hope.
